‘Leach from the dump flows to the adjoining road’
Action council to block K.K. Road on July 5
Kottayam: Protesting against the indifferent attitude of the municipality in dealing with the inconvenience caused by the Vadavathoor dumping yard, the action council has decided to take their agitation to the streets.
Speaking at a press meet here on Monday, action council convener Paulson Peter pointed out that the Municipality has failed in containing the discomfort faced by the locals due to the yard. “Contrary to what the Municipality has stated, the leach from the dump continues to flow to the adjoining road. Moreover, the stench arising from the garbage has not been contained yet,” he said.
The condition in those areas adjoining the yard has become unbearable for the inhabitants. Mr. Peter said, “As the situation has worsened, many have begun to complain of breathing difficulties. This leaves us with no option, but to protest against this attitude shown by the Municipality.”
As part of the agitation, the action council members will block the K.K. Road on July 5 and obstruct the normal functioning of the Municipality on July 20.
“The people of the Vijayapuram panchayat will block the garbage-laden trucks when the stench due to the leach becomes intolerable,” said Mr. Peter.
