VMC asked to install statue of TV
A commemorative meeting passed a resolution urging
Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) to install a bronze statue of
former mayor T. Venkateswara Rao, popularly known as TV, in the city.
A
meeting of former corporators, mayors, deputy mayors, and standing
committees’ chairmen was held here on Monday. The participants paid rich
tributes to TV, the first mayor of the city.
The
meeting also resolved that a bronze statue of TV should be installed at a
prominent place and also that an appropriate locality should be named
after TV, as T. Venkateswara Rao Nagar. They wanted the T. Venkateswara
Chowk at Chuttugunta be developed.
CPI leader and
former MLA K. Subba Raju wrote a letter to Municipal Commissioner Ch.
Hari Kiran urging him to take necessary steps in this regard.
Stating
that the Corporation used to organise children’s day and cultural
competitions, Mr. Subba Raju requested the Commissioner to revive them.
The VMC should take necessary steps to send invitations to former
corporators, former mayors etc to the functions organised by the
Corporation, he added.
