VIJAYAWADA: The general body of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) that is meeting on Wednesday is likely to witness sparks with many contentious issues, including the “mortgaging” of properties belonging to the corporation for securing a loan of Rs. 100 crore, being listed in the agenda.
The Corporation proposes to take the loan from the HUDCO to maintain the momentum of developmental works taken up under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
Another major subject on the agenda is preparation of a detailed project report pertaining to urban transport system in the city.
The Corporation is planning to modernise the urban transport system in the city at an estimated cost of Rs. 3,300 crore.
The permission accorded to set up a bar and a restaurant in VM Ranga Park, which has already kicked up a controversy, would also come up for discussion as both the Left parties have submitted proposals to cancel the permission.
Another burning issue is the inundation of One Town last year and proposals to modernise the outfall drains and construction of new storm water drain from One Town to Eastern Main Canal of the Krishna.
