VMC launches drive
Officials of the public health wing of the Vijayawada
Municipal Corporation clamped down on tyre repair shops near Gorila
Doddi on Eluru Road, around Government Ayurvedic College and on
Gopalareddy Road in an attempt to locate potential breeding grounds for
Aedes mosquitoes that are vectors of dengue and chikungunya.
A
squad of VMC workers, led by Health Officer Babu Srinivasa Rao and
biologist S. Nukaraju, inspected tyre shops and advised the shop owners,
to put the tyres which were currently being left in the open inside the
rooms. If they could not put the tyres inside they should put them in
one place and cover them to prevent rain from collecting them.
Meanwhile
the number of suspected dengue cases that were being treated in
hospitals in the city increased to 12, according to the daily report
received by VMC Chief Medical Officer M. Satyanarayana Raju.
Dr.
Raju advised all to use mosquito nets and throw away water that has
been stocked for more then three to four days. The number of malaria
cases under treatment in different hospitals was 18, he said.
