VMC pitches for national energy saving awards

Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has decided to send its entry for the national level award for energy conservation in streetlight segment to Union ministry of Power. The award will be given on the National Energy Conservation day, which is observed on December 14. The VMC had won the award in 2008 but in 2009, Surat Municipal Corporation bagged the same. VMC officials said the Streetlight department has decided to give a presentation for the competition, in which they have elaborated their energy saving formula.
There are more than 70,000 streetlights in the city and they are installed and maintained by the VMC. The electricity supply, however, is given by the Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Limited. Recently, the civic body had to go for the privatisation of the maintenance of the streetlights in the entire north zone.
