Corporation plans to replace wooden floor with synthetic one
VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) is contemplating converting the Dandamudi Rajagopal Rao Municipal Corporation Stadium into an air-conditioned (AC) indoor stadium.
According to information, Municipal Commissioner G. Ravi Babu has asked the engineering wing of the corporation to prepare estimates for converting the indoor stadium into AC stadium, and develop it on par with international stadiums. The VMC, as part of its plans to renovate the stadium, is proposing to replace the existing wooden floor with synthetic floor.
Synthetic track
Likewise, the corporation is also planning to lay a synthetic walking track at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) stadium. The corporation is favouring a synthetic track in view of the fact that the walkers use the track even after showers. The corporation’s move is likely to be helpful for sportsmen and boost the image of the city if the its plans materialised. The corporation already streamlined the membership at the stadium by cancelling the membership of irregular members. The system of life membership was terminated. Earlier, for just paying Rs. 10,000, many used to get life membership, and there were nearly 2,500 life members at the stadium. And most of them were irregular players. The officials, at an inspection, found “unauthorised people and non-serious members” outnumbering the regular and serious players.
Similarly, the VMC officials estimated that the corporation incurs nearly Rs. 80,000 expenditure on Dandamudi Rajagopal Rao indoor stadium. But, there are no receipts in the recent past. As a solution, the corporation made it mandatory to pay the admission fee and monthly fee only at the citizen’s charter counters of the VMC.
