VMC to focus on improving city parks
With complaints pouring in from all quarters over poor
maintenance of parks, the Lighting and Parks Special Committee has
decided to lay focus on improving amenities, especially play equipment
for children in the parks maintained by Vijayawada Municipal
Corporation.
During the committee meeting held here
on Monday, Committee chairperson A. Shailaja said efforts would be made
in bringing the parks in all the 59 divisions for better public utility.
Special emphasis should be laid on developing at least one park
exclusive for children with all play equipment in the city.
She
sought the cooperation of residents’ welfare associations in
maintaining the parks. During the meeting, the committee members
discussed about the much-awaited installation of LED streetlights in the
city. Authorities informed that the installation of LED streetlights
would commence in two months, said a press release.
Meanwhile,
Mayor Koneru Sridhar stressed on the need to rope in students in
creating awareness on the segregation of dry and wet waste generated in
the city at source itself.
The Corporation authorities said a special drive was commenced since January 15 in collecting dry and wet waste in the city.
A
special programme on the importance of segregating dry and wet waste in
VMC Council Hall and sanitary inspectors and town planning personnel
participated in the programme.
The Mayor said soon
