Walk organised to create awareness

Fitness walk: Volunteers at an “Obesity Walk” in Hubli on Sunday.
Hubli: As part of its awareness campaign on the adverse effects of
obesity, BGS Global Hospital organised ‘Obesity Walk’ in Hubli on
Sunday.
Speaking to presspersons after the event, Makam Ramesh, Head of the
Department of Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery of BGS Global
Hospital, said walking was the best thing to do to avoid becoming obese.
He said they had organised the walk to draw attention of the public
towards the importance of going for a walk to keep healthy.
With the change in lifestyle and eating habits, youngsters are
becoming obese. And, there are many misconceptions about obesity so that
hospital will organise more awareness programmes to encourage people to
take to the habit of going for a walk.
Dr. Ramesh said in cases in which obesity leads to complications,
advanced surgical methods can be used to help patients shed the extra
fat they have put on. He said the Bariatric surgeries had also proved to
be effective in diabetic patients and their dependency on medicines
could be totally done away with through surgery. Earlier, Commissioner
of Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation K.V. Trilokchandra flagged off
the walk.
