Water board moves to regulate private tankers
To regulate the quality and prices of water supplied by
private tankers, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB)
has again written to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to
ensure that private tankers compulsorily obtain a trade licence and
display the source of water on the licence.
“The
owners should get the water tested and certified as per ISI standards by
a laboratory empanelled by BBMP and display the test results on the
tanker. The rate of each water tanker (lorry or tractor load) should be
displayed on the vehicle and the suppliers should also obtain a permit
from the transport department apart from the trade licence,” the letter
said.
“The supplier should also issue receipts with
number and date, besides maintaining a logbook of the operations. Random
checks will be done and the takers of those who do not follow these
rules will be seized,” BWSSB Engineer-in-Chief T. Venkataraju said.
Pointing
out that the private water tanker supply agency should also maintain
details of monthly statistics on the number of water tankers delivering
water, rate at which the water is supplied, quality of water of source
and tankers, he said the details should be furnished to the respective
Executive Engineers of BWSSB’s maintenance division on a regular basis.
“The objective behind this is to ensure safe drinking water supply to the public with reasonable rates,” he added.
BBMP told to make sure private water suppliers get a trade licence.
