Water connections to 145 illegal buildings cut
PUNE: About 145 unauthorized buildings in Pimpri-Chinchwad have been deprived of municipal water and street light facilities for the last 20 days.
“As per the directives of the municipal commissioner, the civic administration has started snapping water connections and blocking drainage pipes of unauthorized constructions that came up after March 31, 2012,” said Shirish Poreddy, spokesperson of the engineering department of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.
Last year, the civic administration had forwarded a proposal to terminate municipal facilities to such constructions. When the proposal remained pending with the general body for four months, municipal commissioner Shrikar Pardeshi used his powers to start razing them from mid-April 2012. “The civic body has filed complaints against owners of 1,165 unauthorized constructions. A total of 222 such buildings have been demolished so far,” Poreddy said.
