Water from Belagola will ease crisis: DC
Pumping of water from Belagola station near here is
expected to begin on Sunday night, and an additional 30 million litres
of water a day would be available in water-starved localities here from
Monday. Deputy Commissioner C. Shikha told
The Hindu
that the boulders and rocks that had blocked water flow into Belagola
station had been cleared, resulting in uninterrupted water flow for
pumping.
She said one tmc ft of water from the
Hemavathi dam was expected to reach here by Monday. This would also ease
the crisis, she said.
Ten tankers had been deployed to supply water to the affected localities, she said.
Ms.
Shikha said funds from the calamity relief were released to rejuvenate
73 borewells in water-starved localities. Also, the work on operating
another heavy-duty pump at the emergency pumping station near Hongalli
was almost ready and it could pump 15 MLD from the riverbed, she added.
