Water meet: Missing councillors, more promises
Many corporators even gave it a miss.
As a solution to the crisis, Mayor SK Nataraj announced that every new ward will get four new borewells and the old wards will get two borewells each.
He said the borewells will be part of the palike’s initiative to solve the city’s water problems.
Nataraj said 183 lakes in need of restoration would be soon developed at a cost of Rs 300 crore. He added that they could recharge some of the ground water and help in storage of water locally.
Emphasising on treatment and recycling of sewage water, he said more resources would be added to treatment plants and the recycled water would be used in parks and other places.
“Strict action will be taken against anyone failing to do their duty,” said the mayor, adding that officials must show more commitment towards solving people’s problems.
He also said rainwater harvesting was essential to ease water shortage and said they would concentrate on ideas to solve drinking water problems in future.
The mayor said a meeting would be held with the assistant executive engineers once a month to solve issues relating to specific zonal divisions.
All the 198 councillors who were given the chance to make their grievances public, dragged the meeting as no other topic was given priority and resulted in repetitive pleas.
“Please concentrate on water issues in the wards,” Nataraj was heard saying several times to councillors who tried to voice other concerns in their wards.
The mayors also called for discipline in the House and told the councillors to give more importance to attending sessions as there were a number of them missing from the session.
