The Kochi Corporation has tied up with SH College, Thevara, to test
the quality of water being distributed through tanker lorries.
Kochi
Mayor Tony Chammany inaugurated the government-recognised laboratory to
test the standard and quality of water, set up under the aegis of the
Bhoomithra Sena Club of the college on Wednesday.
The lab, named Jalashree Harithasala, is open to the public.
Kochi
Corporation is the only municipal body in the state which has tied up
with a college for the purpose of issuing issue licences to tanker
lorries and water testing. At a time when the city is reeling under
acute water shortage, the college should take up the responsibility of
finding new water resources, testing the quality of water and submit the
reports to the Corporation, he said.
The testing will be carried out with the kit provided by the Water Resources Department.
The
chemical pollution level and septic waste levels can be tested with
ease using the kit. College manager Fr Poulose Kidangan presided over
the function. Principal Fr Prasanth Palakkapilli, Prof P J Joseph club
director, T J James coordinator and Thomachan Xavier spoke.
