Weekend water wastage to invite penalty
weekends could be best utilized doing some cleaning up using the garden
tap, then be careful. The engineering wing of Chandigarh municipal corporation has deployed employees on Saturdays and Sundays as well to check misuse of potable water throughout the city.
Sources said there are three engineers in each team and out of these
one team will carry out checks on Saturday and Sunday on rotational
basis. The engineer will submit a report about violations to his
immediate officer and who will further informed senior officer on the
coming working days.
“We have started sending engineers to
field areas on off days as well so that violators. We have regularly
been monitoring each area of the city,” said MC executive engineer B K
Dhawan. According to sources, the teams have detected violators all over
the city, but authorities are focusing more on the northern part of the
city due to big areas of houses, where chances of violation are more.
MC had started a campaign against misuse of water form April 15 and it
will continue for three months till the monsoon season starts.
The engineering wing of MC issued 27 challans for misuse of water on
Monday. The total number of challans has reached around 430. This time,
prior notices are not being given to violators, and instead direct
challans are being issued with panelty of Rs 2,000 to each violator. If a
violator does not submit the challan, his or her connection would be
disconnected.
