Work pending at Ponnurunni east
KOCHI: Division No: 47-Ponnurunni East
Councillor – Jain Teacher (CPM)
No of voters – Around 5,000
A division that generally favours the LDF, Ponnurunni East, which was reserved for women during the last elections, is in the general category in the coming elections. However, the UDF is hoping for an upset victory here this time. The councillor of the division, Jain Teacher, says the division fund has been utilised for tarring and concreting roads, building and maintaining drains and installing slabs over drains. “New drains were built or repaired in some areas like Punchapadath Lane. Existing drains were rebuilt at Grameena Vaayanashala Road and Geetanjali Road to reduce waterlogging in those areas. The Punchathodu has been covered with slabs to make a footpath, thus making way for a road for the families living here who didn’t have road access. Around ` 18 lakh from the general fund was utilised for this purpose. However, some more work is pending,” she says.
The councillor claims the People’s Planning Fund and general fund were utilised for tarring the roads in the division like Rice Research Road, P C Cross Road, Geetanjali Road, Aysha Road, Nursery Road, etc. Some new byroads at Nursery Road, Achan’s Lane and Sastri Road were metalled and tarred.
According to her, the maintenance grant from the People’s Planning Fund was also used to maintain the Homoeo Dispensary, the Anganwadi and the nursery. Tiles were laid and electric and painting work done at the nursery. However, more work needs to be done at this place.
Jain Teacher says ` 3 to 4 lakh from the KSUDP fund has been allotted for tarring work of the roads at Kadapath colony. 70 houses were allotted under the BSUP scheme, of which around 50 have been completed. According to the councillor, work tools were given to 30 people engaged in various jobs like painting, electrical work, marble cutting and plumbing.
For residents of Ponnurunni East, there is no problem worse than the shortage of potable water. For people living in areas like Kadapath colony, tanker water is the only answer to their water problems. Waterlogging troubles areas like Deepam Road.
