Mayor sets six-month deadline to complete the works in all 198 wards
Bangalore: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will take up development works simultaneously in all the 198 wards in the city in November.
Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Mayor S.K. Nataraj said the civic body will set a six-month deadline to complete the works. Councillors have been asked to suggest the programme of works for their respective wards in consultation with the officials. On Wednesday, a meeting was held to apprise the first-time councillors on formulating the programme of works.

“We will meet with the zonal officials to discuss tender allotment. After that we will ensure that the works are taken up simultaneously across the city,” Mr. Nataraj said. Important works may be taken up with the ward funds. “There will be no special grants for emergency works or those whose work code was cancelled recently.” Councillors had been directed to keep aside 10 per cent as reserve funds. These funds could be used to take up emergency works in the wards.
Yeddyurappa to attend
Mr. Nataraj said Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa will attend a special council meeting later this month. “We met him on Tuesday and he agreed to address the council. A date will be fixed after October 22. We are waiting for confirmation from his office,” he said.
He said during the October monthly meeting, the remaining 11 Standing Committees would be formed. There is currently only one committee — Standing Committee on Taxation and Finance. The remaining 11 include Public Health, Town Planning, Major Public Works, Ward-level Public Works, Accounts, Education, Social Justice, Appeals, Horticulture, Markets and Administrative Reforms.
