Would-be MC commissioner meets mayor to get an ‘overview’ of the city
While there is still suspense around the post of Ludhiana Municipal
Corporation commissioner as the transfer of ex-Deputy Commissioner Rahul
Tewari to this post is still awaiting clearance from the Election
Commission, Tewari on Tuesday went for an unofficial meeting with Mayor
Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria at his camp office.
Sources said Tewari asked the mayor about an overview of the city
and ‘priorities’ to which he should pay immediate attention after
joining as MC commissioner.
Talking to Ludhiana Newsline, Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria
said, “He just wanted me to give him an overview of the city and its
local problems and projects he should take up on priority. It was an
unofficial meeting just to get familiar with each other.”
While earlier MC commissioner R K Verma has been removed
following the government orders of Tewari being appointed MC and GLADA
chief, Tewari too is waiting for the EC go-ahead.
At the meeting held on Tuesday, sources said, Tewari was told to keep the Buddha Nullah project
high on his priority list as the polluted stream has made lives
of people difficult despite crores being sanctioned by the state
government and Centre for its cleanliness. He was also told to pay
attention to the immediate implementation of 24×7 water and sewerage
supply which is a part of Sukhbir Badal’s much-touted Rs 2,500 crore
‘Mission Ludhiana.’
“I have also told Tewari about re-carpeting of Ludhiana roads which is needed urgently,” the mayor told Ludhiana Newsline.
