Pkl to have trained persons to catch dogs
PANCHKULA: Finally, Panchkula municipal corporation has invited expression of interest for hiring trained persons to catch stray dogs to deal with the ever-increasing canine menace here. Recently in a meeting, led by Panchkula deputy commissioner, the decision was taken. MC has invited companies and organisations with their proposal.
Earlier, MC had the staff to catch stray cattle, but they faced difficulties in capturing dogs. Many a time, these animals had bit the staff. Due to this, the project of sterilising stray dogs, with the help of Sector 3 Government Pet Clinic, had failed to get a good response.
The Times of India had earlier many times highlighted the menace. Thereafter, MC had awarded a tender to Sector 3 Government Pet Clinic for stray dog sterilisation. As per its terms and conditions, MC had to provide them dogs, following which the clinic would perform the procedure. But MC officials had failed miserably in providing the canines.
‘In the expression of interest, it has been made mandatory that the private contractor should have a caged van and he will send the caught dogs to the pet clinic for sterilisation,’ officials said. OP Sihag, MC executive officer, said they have finalised the terms and conditions and organisations have started giving applications. ‘In the first week of October, we will finalise the contractor and immediately thereafter, MC will start catching stray dogs,’ he added.
Earlier, MC had started a drive in which they had decided to give Rs 500 to residents who caught stray dogs, but due to a poor response, the scheme was closed.
