KOLKATA, 20 MAY: Hooghly River Bridge Commissioner (HRBC) and Kolkata
Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) will conduct a survey to
assess condition of bridges in the city from tomorrow. Mr Sushanto
Kumar Ghosh, member, mayor-in-council, today held a meeting with senior
officials of HRBC, KMDA, Kolkata Improvement Trust (KIT) and state
irrigation department in this regard.
Senior city police officers were
also present. The authority concerned will prepare a report after
assessing the condition of the bridges. The report will be placed before
the KMC within the next two months, said Mr Ghosh. The officials will
hold a review meeting every alternate month regarding the condition of
the bridges. There are 57 bridges in the city. Many bridges in the city
are in poor condition and the authorities concerned always play a blame
game about the maintenance of the bridges, Mr Ghosh said.
