VMC ignores citizen woes as city decks up ahead of India-New Zealand One-Dayer
The Gorwa locality of Vadodara is getting a facelift ahead of the one-day international between India and New Zealand on December 4.
The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has taken up all repair works in the locality, which were lying undone for the past five years.
Residents said the civic body had initiated the repair works at the drainage near Gorakhnath Mahadev in June 2006 and has not completed the work yet.
During the work, a drinking water line was damaged due to the contarctor’s negligence. The residents’ plight did not end there, one more drinking water pipeline got damaged.
The VMC tried building an overflow line but that too failed and water from the drainage, drinking water pipes got mixed up adding to the woes of the residents.
“The fact that BJP’s Dinesh Choksi lost the civic election from Gorwa proves that people are not foolish and they know who is responsible for the problems. It clearly shows that there have been serious lapses on VMC’s part. The people are paying price past five years. Now, they are simply doing the carpeting work, which is nothing but the wastage of money. It is not solving the real problem,” said Chirag Zaveri, opposition leader at VMC.
