MMRDA to build two flyovers near CST Bridge

The much-delayed Santacruz Chembur Link Road project is expected to be completed early next year.

The MMRDA is planning to construct two flyovers near CST Bridge in
Kurla to regulate the flow of traffic from Santacruz Chembur Link Road
(SCLR), which is expected to be completed early next year. MMRDA is also
planning to remodel CST Bridge.

The first flyover will be from the road to Bandra Kurla Complex
(BKC) to CST Road in Kurla, from where vehicles can take the SCLR. The
second will be from Mumbai University junction in Kalina to CST Road.

“The bridges were not part of the original plan of the SCLR, but
with the project nearing completion, traffic congestion on CST Road will
increase. The flyovers will serve in regulating traffic and provide
direct connectivity from BKC to SCLR,” said MMRDA spokesperson Dilip
Kawathkar.

“We will prepare a feasibility report and the agency selected to
draft the report will advise us on the length, width, design of the
flyovers and total cost. We expect to choose an agency by September-end.
Work will begin next year,” Kawathkar said.

CST Bridge is 40 metres long and 30 metres wide. After
remodelling, the bridge would be 100 metres long and will 45 metres
wide, officials said.
